This page is for two kinds of reader at a US company. The first is a controller, FP&A lead or sustainability manager who searched for a way to calculate emissions and landed on Climatiq. The second is an engineering or data lead who has been told to "build the carbon numbers on Climatiq" and is now sizing the project. Both want to know the same things: what Climatiq costs, what it does and does not do, and what the alternatives are.
Everything about Climatiq below comes from climatiq.io, including the pricing page, the data page, the about page and the purchased goods and services page, all read on October 22, 2026. Climatiq prices in euros, so we quote euros. Where Climatiq is the better choice, we say so.
What is Climatiq?
Climatiq is a carbon data company founded in 2021 and a certified B Corp since August 2023. Its core asset is a database it describes as "over a million scientifically-vetted emission factors from over a hundred datasets across 300+ regions," all expressed in CO2e on a 100-year global warming potential basis and compliant with the GHG Protocol. Around that database it sells three things: Data Studio for searching and exporting factors, PCF Studio for product carbon footprints, and an API that software teams call to turn an activity or a spend amount into emissions.
Climatiq says tens of thousands of sustainability professionals use its Studio products, APIs and integrations, and it names integrations with Celonis, Salesforce, Oracle, IFS and IntegrityNext. That last point explains the company well. A lot of Climatiq runs inside other people's software. When a procurement suite or an ESG platform shows a carbon figure next to a purchase, there is often a factor API underneath it.
| Product | What it does | Who it is built for |
|---|---|---|
| Data Studio | Search, filter and export emission factors with metadata such as region, year, calculation method and quality flags | Analysts who need the right factor and will do the arithmetic elsewhere |
| PCF Studio | Product carbon footprints, cradle-to-gate or cradle-to-grave, with a Mapping Agent for bills of materials, AI gap-filling and ISO 14067 audit documentation | Manufacturers answering a customer RFP for the footprint of a product |
| API | Data access, AI-powered mapping of text to factors, PCF calculations, and freight, travel and energy calculations | Developers building carbon features into their own platform |
| Spend-based calculations | Classification codes (ISIC, MCC, NACE, UNSPSC, NAICS) or factors from EXIOBASE, EPA and DEFRA turned into emissions by supplier, category or region | Teams screening purchased goods and services from spend |
| Excel and Google Sheets add-in | Factor lookups inside a spreadsheet | Enterprise customers; an Excel integration is an upgrade on Data Pro |
How much does Climatiq cost?
Climatiq publishes four plans. Starter is free with a non-commercial license, limited factor metadata and five basic product footprints. Data Pro is €3,000 a year for one user with factor export, aimed at Scope 1, 2 and 3 reporting. PCF Pro starts at €4,900 a year for 25 auditable product footprints. Enterprise is custom, and it is the only plan whose pricing card lists API access and commercial data licensing.
| Plan | Price | Users | What the card includes | API access |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | Free | Single user | Search and browse factors with limited metadata, non-commercial license, 5 basic PCFs, self-service support | No |
| Data Pro | €3,000 a year | Single user | Factor export, Excel integration as an upgrade, EXIOBASE 3.11 as an upgrade | No |
| PCF Pro | From €4,900 a year | Single user | 25 auditable PCFs, branded PCF exports, Mapping Agent for BoMs, ISO 14067 audit documentation, premium datasets as add-ons | No |
| Enterprise | Custom (contact sales) | Custom | All premium datasets, custom calculation and PCF volumes, commercial data licensing, Excel and Google Sheets add-in, SLA | Yes |
Two details matter for a buyer. The free Starter license is non-commercial, so a company cannot run its reporting on it. And the API, which is what most "build it ourselves" plans assume, is an Enterprise feature with a quoted price. Premium datasets add to that: Climatiq lists ecoinvent, IEA, Carbon Minds and sustamize as add-ons, and CEDA, the spend-based dataset Climatiq says is provided by Watershed with 60,000 spend-based factors across 148 countries and 400 industries, appears on the Enterprise list.
Watershed, median buyer price
$70,031 a year
Vendr marketplace median for Watershed contracts; Watershed publishes no price
Persefoni Advanced, entry tier
$55,000 a year
AWS Marketplace 12-month tier for companies under $250M revenue
Climatiq Enterprise with API, plus your build
Quoted, plus engineering time
API access is on the Enterprise card only; the inventory application, review workflow and reports are yours to build

Activity-based factors, supplier data requests, CSRD, CBAM and ISSB report packs, audit log
Our Ledger
$2,340 a year
One entity, Scope 1, 2 and spend-based Scope 3 screening from the AP export, CSV and XLSX export
Climatiq API alternatives versus buying a finished carbon ledger
The question behind most searches for Climatiq alternatives is build or buy. A factor API answers one question very well: given this activity, which factor applies and how many kilograms of CO2e does it produce. A corporate inventory needs a great deal more around that answer, and the table below is the honest list of what a team building on any factor API ends up owning.
| Piece of the job | Building on a factor API | Carbon accounting tool |
|---|---|---|
| Getting a year of AP, card and expense lines in | Your pipeline from the ERP, cleaned and deduplicated | CSV or XLSX import of the AP or ERP export |
| Deciding the scope and Scope 3 category of each line | Your mapping rules, or the API's text mapping plus your review | Classification per line with a reason and a confidence score |
| Choosing and versioning factors | The API returns a factor; you store which one and which version | Factor and source stored on each line |
| Reviewing uncertain lines | A queue you design and staff | Low-confidence review queue with approve and override |
| Evidence for an auditor | Your own link from each tonne to its source record | Every posting linked to its source invoice line |
| Reports for CDP, SB 253 or a customer | Your report layer | CSV and XLSX export; report packs on Compliance |
| Next year | Maintain the code, the mapping and the factor updates | Re-run the import with the mapping kept |
Build on a factor API
- 01 Write the pipeline Pull AP, card and expense lines from the ERP into your own database
- 02 Call the API per line Map each line to an activity or spend category and request a factor
- 03 Build a review step Design how uncertain mappings are caught, checked and overridden
- 04 Build the outputs Totals by scope and category, evidence trail and the formats people ask for
CarbonAccounting.ai route
- 01 Export AP lines Supplier invoice lines for the reporting year to CSV or Excel
- 02 US factors per line EPA USEEIO spend factors and eGRID electricity, stored on each line
- 03 Review the unsure lines Each line gets a scope, one of 15 Scope 3 categories, a reason and a confidence score
- 04 Evidenced inventory Each tonne linked to its invoice line, ready for CDP, SB 253 or a customer
Building makes sense when carbon is part of your product. A procurement platform, a freight marketplace or a fintech app that shows emissions to its own customers needs a factor API, and Climatiq is one of the best known. Buying makes sense when carbon is a reporting obligation of your company. A controller who owes a customer questionnaire in six weeks does not need a factor service; they need the AP export classified, reviewed and evidenced, and they need it again next year without an engineering ticket.
Climatiq alternatives by what you are trying to do
| Option | Best for | Price | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| EPA GHG Emission Factors Hub and USEEIO | Teams that only need US factors and will do the math themselves | Free public data | No mapping, no review, no evidence trail; the work is all yours |
| Climatiq Data Pro | One analyst who needs a large multi-region factor library | €3,000 a year | Single user, no API, the inventory still lives in your spreadsheet |
| Persefoni | Larger companies that want a full platform with consulting | Pro free (one user, reports as add-ons); Advanced from $55,000 a year on AWS | Reports such as CDP are add-ons on Pro; Advanced is priced by revenue band |
| Watershed | Large enterprises with a sustainability team and a budget | No public price; Vendr median $70,031 a year | Demo-led sales, multi-year contracts are common |
| Aclymate | Small US companies starting with a directional footprint | Navigator $45 a month at 1 to 10 employees, billed yearly, scaling with headcount | Aclymate itself avoids audit-ready claims |
| CarbonAccounting.ai | Finance teams with an AP export and a dated request | Ledger $390 a month, Compliance $1,290 a month, 50% off billed yearly | Not a factor API and not a product footprint tool |
Where each option fits
Climatiq Enterprise
You are building emissions into software you sell, need commercial data licensing and want an API with a large multi-region factor library.
Climatiq PCF Pro
The request is the footprint of a specific product under ISO 14067, built from a bill of materials, from €4,900 a year.
Ledger or Compliance
Export the AP lines for the year, classify, review and send. Ledger is $2,340 a year; Compliance adds activity factors and supplier requests at $7,740.
When Climatiq is the better choice
Pick Climatiq if your request is about products rather than the company. PCF Studio is built for the manufacturer whose customer wants the footprint of a part or a SKU, with a bill-of-materials mapper and ISO 14067 documentation, and we do not calculate product footprints. Pick Climatiq Enterprise if you are a software company adding carbon to your own platform, because you need commercial rights to the data and an API, and a ledger tool gives you neither. And pick Data Pro if you are a consultant or analyst who mostly needs to look up factors across many countries.
Pick a carbon accounting tool if the request is a company inventory with a date on it. That covers a supplier questionnaire from a large customer, a CDP response, a lender's sustainability-linked loan, or a parent company that falls under California SB 253, which requires companies with more than $1 billion in revenue doing business in California to report Scope 1 and 2 by November 10, 2026 and Scope 3 from 2027.
Questions to settle before you build on any emission factor API
- 01 Who owns the mapping? Every AP line needs a scope and a category. Decide who writes the rules, who reviews the misses and who maintains them when the chart of accounts changes.
- 02 Which plan includes the API and the data license you need? On Climatiq that is Enterprise. Get the annual price and the calculation volume in writing before you scope the build.
- 03 Which factor version produced last year's number? Factor sets update every year. An auditor will ask which version sits behind each tonne, so store it per line.
- 04 What does the report layer look like? A customer template, a CDP response and an SB 253 submission each want totals in different shapes, with a methodology note.
- 05 What does year two cost? A built tool needs an owner. Compare the engineering time for maintenance with a subscription that re-runs the same import.
